| A VIEW FROM THE DECK |
......................................................................................................................................................................................
The Boathouse cabin is located at the waterfront,
midpoint on our 12 acre property which has 650 feet of water frontage on South Lake, a beautiful salt water lagoon adjacent
to 3 miles of spectacular white sand dune and ocean beach. Also located on the property is our residence (VP) and our other
solar cabins (VP East & VP West), but all retain a very substantial margin of privacy (see aerial view below) and have
separate access points to the waterfront .
The Boathouse cabin is immediately adjacent to a deck that directly
fronts and overlooks the water and affords a wonderful view of the lake and dune. From the deck, a short stairway down to
the water provides access to the boat moorings at a shallow/safe/sandy area of the lakefront. A short paddle across the lagoon
(South lake) there are 3 miles of beautiful open ocean dune/beach which is rarely occupied except by the occasional hiker
(use of a boat or canoe is included in the rental). The back yard lawn area of the Boathouse is equipped with a picnic table
and charcoal fired BBQ grill.
The charmingly rustic Boathouse cabin has 12 Volt DC solar electric power for lighting, water
pumping, etc. A small DC to AC inverter is provided for running small 115 VAC devices such as chargers for laptop computers,
etc. The main first floor room is a dining/living area with 2 adjacent alcoves; the kitchen alcove is equipped
with sink, gas stove, gas fridge, and cooking/dining utensils and the bay window alcove (facing the deck and water) contains
2 built-in settees and a coffee table. The main room also has a wood stove to dispel any summer/fall chills.
On
the 2nd floor, accessed by a rather steep and quite narrow stepped stairway, is the one bedroom with a queen size bed. Also,
above the bedroom, and accessed through a trap door in a corner of the bedroom ceiling, is a very small sitting-headroom sized
sleeping loft with a single foam mattress.
There is a detached shower stall accessed via a boardwalk just a few
steps from the cabin, and further along, the path leads to a composting type toilet facility.
There is hot and
cold running water in the shower house, but at the kitchen sink in the cabin, there is only cold running water.
If
phone and internet service is required, the telephone line that is connected to the cabin can be activated at a nominal extra
cost. A dial-up internet access number is also available. If you have a cell phone, reports from previous guests indicate
that some connect fine and others do not......depending on the coverage of your particular carrier. There is also free
WiFi access available at various locations in nearby towns adjacent to South Lake.
The Boathouse Cabin is well
equipped, including blankets but excluding linens and towels, and is suitable for 1-2 adults plus 1-2 children.
The
town of South Lake is at the eastern end of PEI just below East Point. The property is about 2 miles from the general store
in Bothwell and it is about a 15-20 minute drive to Souris which has a complete range of facilities...supermarkets, banks
w/ATM, restaurants, etc.
